Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBT) persons relocate throughout the world and within their own countries, frequently to avoid discrimination or unfair treatment because of their sexual orientation. Numerous LGBT persons seek to emigrate from intolerant areas across the world. Homosexuality and transgender identity are illegal in several nations throughout the world. A minimum of 5 (and some regions in others) have the death sentence for homosexuality, which is illegal in 69 nations. It is illegal for people to alter their gender legally in 47 nations. Being transgender is expressly illegal in 13 countries and is de facto illegal in 37. In recent decades, there has been a rise in the number of LGBT people seeking asylum abroad as a result of this criminalization of the LGBT community.
