Health coaching is the use of clinical treatments, evidence-based skilled dialogue, and techniques to actively and safely involve clients or patients in changing their health habit. Those with chronic conditions or those who are at moderate to high risk of developing chronic conditions can be safely guided by health coaches who have the necessary certifications or credentials. Clinical interventions based on evidence like motivational interviewing to encourage behaviour change, the transtheoretical model of change, goal setting, active listening, aggregation and trending of health outcome metrics, and prevention are the foundation of health coaching for clinicians and practitioners. The degree to which a person feels optimistic and excited about life is defined as wellbeing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Wellness coaching is a technique that encourages a client to make healthy, long-lasting behavioural changes.
