The autism spectrum, also known as just autism, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or autism spectrum condition (ASC) in the context of a professional diagnosis, is a group of neurodevelopmental conditions characterised by challenges with social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, the presence of repetitive behaviour, and narrowed interests. Struggling to make friendships and odd reactions to sensory stimuli are two more prevalent symptoms. Since autism is typically referred to as a spectrum disorder, each individual's manifestation of the condition will be unique. An autistic person is likely to display some of the symptoms associated with the condition, but not all of them, and to variable degrees. Over the course of their lives, some autistic individuals stay nonspeaking, while others have considerably unimpaired spoken language.
