Abstract:
Adolescent fatherhood is a global challenge with well-established causes that raise significant concerns for adolescent life's social, educational, health, and financial aspects.Though the consequences of adolescent motherhood have been studied very well, little is known about the magnitude and determinants of adolescent fatherhood. A qualitative research method, adoptinga community engagement research approach using explorative, descriptive, and contextual designs will be utilized in this study. Non-probability, purposive sampling will be used to sample the participants. The study's target population will be adolescent fathers and parents of adolescent fathers in the Mavambe community. The study will be conducted in two phases. Phase one will be situational analysis, where multiple theories, namely, the Theory of Planned Behavior, Dickoff's six elements of practice, SWOT analysis, and BOEM’s action plan theory, will be utilized to guide the study. Data will be generated using focus-groups and semi- structured individual interviews with adolescent fathers’ parents. Data will be analyzed thematically using Braun and Clarke’s six steps. Trustworthiness and ethical principles will be adhered to throughout the study. Ethical approval will be obtained from the University of Kwazulu-Natal and community leaders. The second phase will be developing and validating a support program for adolescent fathers in Collins Chabane Municipality, Limpopo Province. This study aims to develop a support program for adolescent fathers in Collins Chabane Municipality, Limpopo Province. The developed program will be validated according to Chinn and Kramer’s steps.
