Title : Mental health diplomacy: Integrating psychological well-being into global health governance

Abstract:

One important but usually disregarded aspect of global public health is mental health. Given that one in eight people globally are thought to suffer from a mental illness, there is a startling discrepancy between the prevalence of psychological diseases and the consideration given to them in international policy frameworks. The COVID-19 pandemic brought to light the systemic repercussions of disregarding mental health, demonstrating its significant impact on cross-border collaboration, economic stability, and societal resilience. These facts underscore the pressing need to rethink mental health as a strategic priority in international relations and global health governance, rather than only as a clinical issue.

The framework of Mental Health Diplomacy, which places psychological well-being at the centre of international policy-making and multilateral participation, is introduced in the subject matter. It looks at how mental health can be promoted at international fora like the G20, the UN, and the World Health Organization, with a focus on both creative policymaking and real-world application.
Important areas of attention consist of:

• Incorporating mental health into global health security plans to increase resistance to pandemics, war, and displacement brought on by climate change.

• Addressing the disparities in the Global North and South's access to mental health treatments, paying particular emphasis to workforce capacity, digital innovations, and culturally relevant approaches.

• Encouraging context-sensitive, community-driven models that go beyond traditional Western diagnostic frameworks to guarantee relevance and equity for a range of people.

• Utilizing mental health programs as soft power and diplomatic tools to promote global collaboration, stigma reduction, and innovative policymaking.

This article promotes the integration of mental health in international treaties, multilateral agreements, and strategic planning by redefining it as a diplomatic issue as well as a policy necessity. In the twenty-first century, promoting mental health to this degree will guarantee that psychological well- being becomes a fundamental principle of public health policy and international collaboration, paving the way for more egalitarian, sustainable, and culturally sensitive global health systems.
