Improving notification for laboratory critical test results in Werabe comprehensive specialized hospital.

Speaker at International Public Health Conference 2026 - Behre Dari Mosa
Worabe Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Ethiopia
Title : Improving notification for laboratory critical test results in Werabe comprehensive specialized hospital.

Abstract:

Background:- Effective communication of critical laboratory results is essential for timely patient care. A recent assessment within WCSH revealed only 31% of critical results were communicated effectively to providers, leading to care delays, compromised patient safety, and reduced healthcare quality.

Intervention:- To address this, the Laboratory Directorate initiated a quality improvement (QI) project focused on enhancing the critical test result notification system.

Results:- The project significantly improved the notification rate from 31% to 86%. Run chart analysis (performance phase) demonstrated all data points exceeding the median, indicating statistically significant and sustained improvement.

Conclusion:- The tested changes were successful. This intervention provides a validated approach for implementing an effective critical result notification system and serves as an adaptable framework for addressing similar communication challenges in healthcare settings
