Title: From evidence to impact: Supporting every pathway to better health see the person. Honor the journey. Support the pathway. Change lives
Abstract:
The science of health, weight management, and sustainable behaviour change is evolving and so must the role of today’s health and fitness professional. There is no single pathway to better health. The journey may include lifestyle intervention, obesity management medications, bariatric surgery, or a combination of behavioral change, exercise, nutrition, medical care, and social support. These are not competing strategies. They are different tools for different people at different times. This dynamic, interactive presentation moves beyond the outdated question, “Which pathway is best?” and asks something more important: “How do we build the right support around the person and their chosen pathway?” Bob will explore the role of health and fitness professionals on the patient’s care team; how movement builds strength and function; how nutrition and behavioral strategies support change; and how social connection creates belonging and accountability. He will also examine how professionals can appropriately support individuals using obesity management medications, various bariatric surgery options, with or without the combined use of OMMs, and/or using various Health Behaviour & Lifestyle Change Strategies within a collaborative healthcare ecosystem. Expect evidence. Expect interaction. Expect your assumptions to be challenged.
