Biography:
Mariam Ibrahim Athuman is an assistant lecturer and communication researcher at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with research interests in health communication, interpersonal communication, and public health. Her work focuses on how communication practices within healthcare settings can influence patients’ experiences, understanding, and engagement with health services. Her research on politeness strategies in healthcare settings examines how interpersonal communication practices shape interactions between non-clinical healthcare providers and patients, with implications for effective communication, patient-centred care, and improved public health outcomes.
